Apple & Mac

Mac repair, and a straight answer on what's worth fixing.

Thirty years of Macs, from the magnetic-glass iMacs upward. We handle macOS, adware, migrations, data and hardware on the serviceable generations — and where a machine isn't economic to repair, you'll be told that plainly rather than quoted for it. Apple will quote £600 for a job that sometimes isn't worth £100. Working out which of the two you've got is part of the visit, on the same terms as everything above — no fix, no fee.

Worth knowing about newer Macs. If your Mac powers on at all, we can almost certainly get your data off it. But from 2018 onward the storage is soldered to the board and encrypted to a security chip on it — so if that board has died, the data has died with it, and nobody can recover it whatever they charge you. The only real insurance is a backup, which is why Time Machine is on the list above at £65.

Builds, upgrades & networking

We don't only fix broken ones.

Repairs are most of the week, but not all of it. New machines built to a brief, gaming rigs made to run cool and quiet, and networks that reach the whole building — all on-site, all with the same fixed-price-before-we-start rule. These are quoted rather than listed, because a build is only ever as expensive as the parts you choose. Ask and you'll get a written spec and a total.

Custom builds

  • A PC built to your budget, not a shop's margin
  • Office and home machines that'll last ten years
  • Workstations for CAD, video or photo work
  • Quiet builds for a living room or bedroom
  • A second opinion on a spec you've been quoted
  • Windows, drivers and your files set up before we leave

Gaming PCs

  • Graphics card upgrades, fitted and tested
  • Frame rates dropping, or stuttering mid-game
  • Thermal throttling — loud fans, hot case, crashes
  • Power supply too small for a new card
  • Full strip, clean and repaste on an older rig
  • AIO cooler failed, or a pump gone noisy
  • Storage filling up — more NVMe, files moved over

Networking & business

  • Mesh Wi-Fi that actually covers the top floor
  • Wired points run to an office, loft or outbuilding
  • Shared drives and a NAS the whole office can reach
  • Backups that run on their own and get checked
  • A printer everyone can see, including from phones
  • New starter set up, or a leaver's account handed over
  • Several machines on one visit, priced as one job

Nothing above has a published price, and that's deliberate. A build follows the parts, and a network follows the building. Tell us roughly what you want to spend and what the machine is for, or how many rooms need covering, and you'll get a proper itemised quote — free, in writing, with no obligation and nothing bundled in that you didn't ask for. Ask the engineer or ring 07896 071784.

For businesses

No contract, no retainer, no monthly per-user bill.

Most IT companies want a three-year agreement and a price per head before they'll answer the phone, and none of them will come out to a four-person office for one broken laptop. We will. Offices, shops, surgeries, practices, salons, trades and anyone running a business from home — up to about twenty-five machines, which is the point where you genuinely do want a full-time provider, and we'll tell you so.

  • No agreement to signYou pay for the work and nothing between jobs.
  • The same engineerOne person who learns your setup and remembers it.
  • Invoiced, not chasedOn completion, or monthly once we know each other.

The work is the obvious things and the awkward ones: the laptop that's stopping someone working today, new starters set up and leavers handed over, machines replaced or built to a spec, Microsoft 365 and email moved without losing a mailbox, shared drives and backups that get tested rather than assumed, and a printer the whole office can reach. Visits are in working hours so nothing waits until Monday — or out of hours if the job means downtime you can't afford. What you won't get is a promised response time. One engineer can't be in two towns at once, so you'll get a straight answer on when we can be there instead of a number in a contract that gets broken on the day it matters. Ask the engineer or ring 07896 071784.

How a callout works

Three steps, and you keep your computer the whole time.

You describe the fault

Call or text a photo of the error. You'll get a likely cause, a fixed price and an arrival window on that first conversation.

The engineer comes to you

Home, office or kitchen table. Common screens, drives and charging ports are carried in the van, so the part is usually already there.

You pay once it works

Tested in front of you, then card or bank transfer. Your files never leave your house and nothing is sent away.

Questions welcome

Ask the engineer.

A price, a second opinion, or just whether an eight-year-old laptop is worth repairing at all. Ask away — it goes straight to the person who'd do the work, and there's no obligation to book anything.

  • A straight answer within 2 hours — and a fixed price too, if the fault is clear enough to price.
  • Happy to say "don't bother" if a repair isn't worth your money. You'll get the honest answer, not the profitable one.
  • Your details go to the engineer and nowhere else. Never sold on, never added to a mailing list — here's exactly what we do with them.
  • In a hurry? Phoning is still faster — 07896 071784.

No deposit, no card details, and no obligation to book.

Common questions

The things people ask before they ring.

Do you come to my house?
Yes. Every repair is carried out in your home or office, usually at the kitchen table. Nothing is taken away or sent to a third party, so your files never leave the house.
How much is a laptop screen replacement?
£60 covers the fitting, and the screen itself depends on the machine — a standard 15" laptop panel is a good deal less than a high-resolution or touchscreen one. Tell us the make and model and you'll get one all-in price for the job, fitted and guaranteed, before anything is ordered. Most screens are replaced in under an hour, on site.
Is there a callout charge on top of the price?
No. Every published price is the total and includes the visit. If we can't fix the fault you pay nothing at all. If we can fix it and you decide not to go ahead, it's £35 for the visit and that's the end of it.
Can you recover photos from a dead laptop?
Usually, yes. If the drive still responds, recovery starts at £95 and is normally done the same day. If the drive has failed mechanically it starts at £150, and we quote properly once we've seen it.
Which areas do you cover?
Everywhere within 15 miles of High Wycombe with no travel charge — Amersham, Marlow, Beaconsfield, Chesham, Princes Risborough, Great Missenden, Wendover and the villages between. Between 15 and 25 miles there's a £15 travel charge.
Do you work on Macs as well as PCs?
Yes — thirty years of them. macOS problems, adware, slow Macs, migrations to a new machine, data work and backups on any Mac. On hardware, 2015-and-earlier machines are fully serviceable: screens, drives and upgrades. From 2016 onward Apple soldered the memory and storage to the board, so those are board-level jobs rather than component repairs — we'll diagnose yours and tell you whether it's economic before you spend anything.
My newer MacBook won't turn on. Can you get my photos back?
If it powers on at all, almost certainly — we connect it to another Mac and copy everything off, from £110. If the logic board itself has died on a 2018-or-newer Mac, the answer is harder: the storage is soldered to that board and encrypted to a security chip on it, so the data has gone with it. Nobody can recover that, whatever they charge you. We'd rather tell you straight than take your money. It's also why we'll happily set Time Machine up properly for £65 on a machine that's still working.
Do you support small businesses without a contract?
Yes, that's rather the point. There's no agreement to sign, no retainer and no monthly charge per person — you pay for the work and nothing between jobs. It suits offices, shops, surgeries, practices and anyone running a business from home, up to roughly twenty-five machines. Repairs, new starters, machines built or replaced, Microsoft 365 and email migrations, shared drives, networking and backups that get tested. Visits are in working hours so nothing waits for the weekend, and several machines on one visit are priced as one job. We don't offer a guaranteed response time, because one engineer can't be in two places at once — you'll get a straight answer on when we can be there.
Do you build custom and gaming PCs?
Yes, and we'd rather build you one than sell you a machine you don't need. Tell us what it's for and roughly what you want to spend and you'll get an itemised spec with a single total — parts, build, Windows and your files moved across, set up in your house. Gaming rigs are the same: graphics card upgrades fitted and tested, power supplies matched to the card, and the cooling sorted so it isn't throttling halfway through a session. Quoted rather than priced on the list, because the parts set the price.
Can you sort out Wi-Fi and networking for a business?
Yes. Mesh Wi-Fi that reaches the whole building, wired points run to an office, loft or outbuilding, shared drives and a NAS the office can get at, and backups that run on their own and get checked rather than being forgotten. Several machines on one visit are priced as one job rather than one at a time.
What are your opening hours?
Monday to Saturday, 10am to 7pm, so you don't have to take time off work. Sundays are kept free for emergency callouts, charged at £30 on top of the job price.
What if the job I need isn't on your price list?
Just ask — the lists cover what we're called out for most, not everything we do. Anything not listed is £65 an hour with a first-hour minimum, and you'll be given a firm figure before any work starts. Business and multi-machine work is quoted separately.
